Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1941-07-23) letter no. 25 (1941-07-26) next letter (1941-08-03) envelope: front back text russia 26. July 41. Dear parents, as i have some time again today, i want to send you a sign of life from me. Hopefully the post won’t take so long. We crossed the beresina 2 days ago and had 2 days of peace. Now i am in bubrouisk [babrujsk or bobruisk]. We are sleeping in a house for the first time since we’ve been in poland and russia. We’re not used to chairs and tables anymore. There’s no butter, of course, but we sleep just fine on the floor. Sleeping is the most important thing for us, wherever we can we just let ourselves fall and sleep! otherwise i'm still doing quite well. I've already had my baptism of fire! thank god i'm still fresh [and healthy!]. Date: 26 July 1941.
