Portrait of Maria Maddalena Farnese (1638-1693), daughter of Odoardo Farnese, Frans Denys, circa 1662

Portrait of Maria Maddalena Farnese (1638-1693), daughter of Odoardo Farnese, Frans Denys, circa 1662

The painting was previously identified with caterina farnese (1637-1684), daughter of odoardo farnese, duke of parma, and margherita de' medici. She became nun in 1662 as teresa margherita dell’incarnazione. It's now recognised in agreement as a portrait of her sister maria maddalena (1638-1693): the face is very similar to a portrait of the princess engraved by vort, and it has been observed the popularity of the portrait in guise of the eponymous saint of the sitter in that period. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1662. Dimensions: height: 88 cm (34.6 in); width: 67.5 cm (26.5 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Galleria nazionale di Parma. Denys Frans - Maria Maddalena Farnese - Galleria nazionale, Parma
