Mallarmé et Renoir, photographie par Degas 1895, Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Auguste renoir (seated) and stéphane mallarmé at berthe morisot. Photograph by edgard degas, 18995. Stéphane mallarmé departmental museum (inv n°: 985. 114. 1) - according to paul valéry: next to a large mirror, we see mallarmé leaning against the wall, renoir on a couch facing forward. In the mirror, like ghosts, degas and the camera, madame and mademioselle mallarmé can make out each other. Nine kerosene lamps, a terrible quarter of an hour of immobility for the subjects were the conditions for this masterpiece. Date: 1895.
