Endō Musha Morito Approaching Kesa's Bedroom, Yoshitoshi

Cole collection (m. 84. 31. 94) japanese art 渡辺渡の妻の袈裟御前を見て恋慕した遠藤盛遠は,御前を奪うためにその夫の寝間を襲った。それに気づいた御前は夫の身代わりになり盛遠に斬られる。恥じた盛遠は出家し文覚を名乗った。 endo moritoh(1139-1203) loved kesa gozen, the wife of watanabe wataru, who was his male cousin and worked together with him. Moritoh killed wataru in his bedroom, but the dead body was kesa's. She had smelled moritoh's scheme and gotten into her husband's bed as a substitute to save him. Moritoh was ashamed of him behavior and entered into the priesthood. He became the famous priest bunkaku. Date: Published in 1883. Dimensions: Image- 13 1/4 x 9 5/16 in.
