iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "place des victoires", statue (of general desaix?), architecture. Characters: a crowd of men, one of whom in a large hat is holding a basket, women, including a girl near the soldier, and children, one of whom pushes a dog with his foot with an air of displeasure, are gathered in front of a platform on which several characters are performing. One plays the violin and the trumpet, a woman holds a bottle and a glass and the last presents a cross to the spectators. Another man enters backstage. A panel attached to the roof shows a magician, a skull, a veiled figure and death with his scythe. A car passes in the background. Parade, head scarf, headdress, top hat, cap, white hat with wide fort brim, trade medal, people. Trained in prussia, opiz specialized in street scenes and small trades. Undoubtedly arriving in paris with the occupying armies, at the fall of the empire, he left numerous picturesque testimonies of the daily life of parisians at the beginning of the restoration, washing tasty watercolors, often intended to be engraved with etching.
