K. S. Pavlov the carpenter. 1838 canvas, oil. 94. 5 x 77 author's (?) inscription on the back: 1838 painted from life by kapiton pavlov. Mailed in 1938 through lzk (v. D. Frolov's collection) zh-5258 the painting "the carpenter" can be attributed to the rarely encountered genre of "professional portrait". Obviously, the work was done from life: the figure of a working man, a tanned face with large features, and the manner of smoking a pipe while working are taken from life. The artist painted "the carpenter" during his life in little russia, when he taught drawing at the nezhin gymnasium, where his students included n. V. Gogol, a. N. Mokritsky, n. P. Kukolnik and others. The painting reflects the artist’s impressions of real life, hard work that brings true satisfaction to the skilled person. Date: 1838.
