He looks at the sun that rises above the plain to the right, barely illuminating the deep darkness below with its weak rays. The lower part of the celestial body seems to be half veiled by the eternal darkness of the sublunary, but the upper, larger part shines in a much brighter sky. Date: 1891. Place of creation: Paris.
