Pilgrim of the sublunary world, Odilon Redon, 1891

Pilgrim of the sublunary world, Odilon Redon, 1891

Plate 5 from the songes series, at the foot of a mountain massif, a galloping black horse appears on the left, half cut off, ridden by a rider dressed in white. He looks at the sun that rises above the plain to the right, barely illuminating the deep darkness below with its weak rays. The lower part of the celestial body seems to be half veiled by the eternal darkness of the sublunary, but the upper, larger part shines in a much brighter sky. Date: 1891. Place of creation: Paris. Dimensions: height: 27.5 cm (10.8 in); width: 20.5 cm (8 in). Medium: lithograph on paper. Collection: Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands Art Collection.
