elegant on a boulevard. Genre scene. Fashion. Urban landscape. Young woman full length, front, with hat, umbrella, silhouettes of characters, architecture. Historical commentary:
the seligmann donation includes a series of 17 feminine silhouettes: elegant parisian figures on the grand boulevards, at the moulin rouge, at the universal exhibition, during nighttime outings; portraits of japanese women. Illustrator of novels, magazines ("frou-frou", "lachronicle parisienne"), humorous newspapers ("le rire"), henry somm goes beyond the framework of illustration by participating in the impressionist events at durand-ruel (see the reference catalog). Montorgueil wrote about somm's drawings: "it is his habit to capture women in flight, in life, in the middle of the street, when she passes" ("the parisian painted by herself, 1897).
