iconographic description:
in a street, a young soldier, pacot, climbed on the shoulders of an old corporal to take a closer look at the inscriptions on the theater poster of the olympic circus of paris. He searches for the name of the old soldier. This is the poster for the show "the emperor. Historical events in 5 acts and 18 scenes", by prosper and auguste le poitevin, presented for the first time on december 6, 1830. Pl. Makes fun of plays taking the napoleonic legend as their theme, which employ a large number of soldiers who fought alongside napoleon as actors. The pl. Laughs at the blurring of the boundary between spectacle and reality. She also gently mocks the effort made by the two men to read the names on the poster. Charlet was particularly interested in napoleonic subjects. Image in relation to the article "of dramatic freedom - of the right to display posters - of the romanticism of the streets - like / what pacot was not old enough to understand, was reduced to riding on / the epaulettes of his corporal.
