My beloved mother! i wrote to you once before today from halberstadt. I've now arrived here at the barracks and i've received some good news. I can come and visit you next week for a short vacation! so what do you say? i'm leaving here on thursday 11 may at 9. 10 a. M. And if all goes well i'll be in vienna on friday at around 9. 00 a. M. Hopefully nothing else comes up because anything is possible with the military. I've then got four days' vacation until 15 may. So two trips and two days' vacation isn't much, but i'm happy! please make sure that you have these days off and are not on duty. I don't know which station i'll be arriving at yet, so please wait for me at home. I'll probably arrive during the morning. Now i can hardly wait for thursday. Anticipation is the greatest joy! i hope my letter reaches you in time! now, my dear mother, be happy with me. Date: 6 May 1944.
