Dear parents! first of all, i send you and siegi my warmest greetings. Thank you again for your lovely package. I wrote before, didn't you get my card? received your card yesterday. Poldi wrote too. There's nothing at all with us now. We've only got foot-and-mouth disease on the farm, of course only in the cows. Can't sleep in the bunker because of the risk of infection. Have to sleep at the farmer's now. It'll be over soon, it's been 14 days. Now it's time for the potatoes. Everything is done with machines. The machine throws the potatoes out and we have to pick them up. Then the turnips come. It was fine recently, we had to pick plums. You can imagine how i "ate". There is enough fruit here anyway, which is great. - what do you say about the czech dogs, that is more than a mess. Date: 18 September 1938.
