Historical painting of the visit by w:Amalia van Solms to w:Halfweg in 1648, painted for the w:Gemeenlandshuis Rijnland in 1702, Dirk Maas

In the background of the painting you can see a sailing yacht sailing on the haarlemmermeer. On either side of the common country house we see a gate with a swan depicted on it. The house provided shelter on several occasions to princes from the house of orange and other notable persons. It may be that one of those visits is recorded in this painting. The painting was originally intended as a mantel piece for the red hall of the common lands house in leiden, as can be seen from the appendix to the account from 1702. Object Type: painting. Date: 1702. Dimensions: 139 × 161 cm (54.7 × 63.3 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland. Dirk Maas - Huis Zwanenburg te Halfweg 1702
