Copy from an original by silvestre painted in 1714, preserved in the hermitage museum in saint petersburg. In the painting, she is represented in widow's costume, after the death of her husband in 1710. She then became dowager duchess of bourbon. Saint-simon left a description of this singular costume worn only by duchesses, a garment lined with ermine, with a veil of dutch cloth. Other versions of this work exist at the hermitage museum in saint petersburg, at the museum of fine arts in tours, as well as at the promenade museum in marly. Note that the work is more surely due to pierre gobert, who exhibited a version of this painting at the salon of 1737, than to louis de silvestre (1675-1760) to whom it is very often attributed. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: between 1710 and 1720. Dimensions: height: 104 cm (40.9 in) ; width: 80 cm (31.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas.
