Naples chiaja seen from pizzofalcone in the direction of mergellina and posillipo: in the foreground the back of the houses in piazza vittoria, the winter garden, then the chiaja beach and the villa comunale. Author unknown. The winter garden was a building built around 1857. And located close to the villa reale (now the municipal villa), used as a meeting place, which housed spaces dedicated to music and theatre, with ballrooms and cafés. The moorish style structure, consisting of a large polygonal room with iron and glass parts, was built on the proposal of the architect marco aurelio castaldi. In 1871 the building had already become dilapidated due to sea storms, and since it was located in the area where via caracciolo would later be built, it was demolished in 1876. Date: 19th century.
