Sarah Bernhardt en colère, par Georges Clarin (1912), Georges Clairin

During the summer of 1912, sarah bernhardt ordered hats from her milliner, madeleine lechat, to protect her from the belle-île sun. When the hat box arrives, sarah bernhardt extracts an enormous headgear measuring 85 cm in diameter which does not correspond to her expectations; she becomes violently angry. His friend, the painter georges clairin, who witnessed the scene, then took with him the lid of the hat box on which he painted the portrait of the angry actress. Hat box currently (2018) kept in belle-île, in the vauban citadel museum. Date: 1912.
