PontDyleHeverleeFin17èmeSiècle, Adrien de Montigny

Drawing made for charles de croÿ (albums de croÿ): plan and sketch of the cabrughe bridge in heverle, on the dyle (undated, but probably made in the 1590s). Cabrughe was a place said to be located near the chateau de heverlee, near the saint lambert church (shown in another illustration in the same work). The crenellated wall which corbelledly surrounds the central part of the bridge suggests that it is at the same time designed (perhaps designed by the architect pierre lepoivre for the passage, toll and defense of the road. Wooden barriers also prevent direct and rapid access to the drawbridges. According to the original plan the dyle river was at this location approximately 52 feet wide, 14. 8 m. The houses would therefore be very small (guard post?), and the bridges narrow levis. Date: fin XVIe ou début XVIIe siècle.
