The pond of ruel castle, upstream of the cave, by israel silvestre - ca. 1650 view of the cave in the ruel garden (now rueil-malmaison, in hauts-de-seine). Engraving by gabriel pérelle after a drawing by israel silvestre, circa 1650. This italian-inspired place, popular with walkers and poets, was part of a set of ponds and fountains commissioned by cardinal richelieu to decorate his castle in val de ruel, which has now disappeared. Date: circa 1650.
