Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-11-08) letter no. 294 (1944-11-14) next letter (1944-11-18) envelope: front back text things are a little better here with the planes now, without warning. On friday the alarm chased us out of the cinema; “the magic violin” was on; i saw this for the third time. There’s also a play on words from our dear vienna; how wonderful it is! otherwise there’s plenty of work to do, but that’s not so bad. In the evenings we have our lovely living room, six of us lie there. It’s very nice here; a gardener is always buying flowers, we have a radio, and when the fire is crackling in the stove it’s nice and cosy! we have enough books too, so we sit comfortably in our “worried” armchairs and read. Now and then i go out, just when it suits me. It's bearable like that and i'm completely happy. If only you could have it that quiet! my thoughts are often with you, my mum, i'm always listening eagerly on the radio to see if they've been down to see us again. As i said, don't worry about me, just stay healthy and everything will be fine. Do you have window panes again? so, my mum, all the best from the bottom of my heart, my warmest regards and kisses, your hansl. (on the bottom right edge of the letter, vertically) has my post arrived? Date: 14 November 1944.
