The motif is taken from oviksfjällen in western jämtland. The artist simeon öquist (1868‑1955) is seen with his hunting dog at a shack where he stopped to talk to two women. He carries a couple of scratches that he shot and a rifle over his shoulder. Öquist himself has described that he was amused by shooting and that he was accompanied by bruno liljefors in oviksfjällen one year when they were out grouse hunting: "he was a good comrade". Just like öquist, liljefors was amused by hunting and liked to capture, as in the auction's painting, the hunter in the atmospheric nature. Öquist studied at the art academy in stockholm in the years 1888‑1892 and became perhaps best known for his portraits and landscape depictions. Object Type: painting. Date: 1890.
