A scene the very successful kabuki play 'sakura soshi', with the actors ichikawa kodanji iv as asakura togo (right), in the presence of his wife o-mine, played by onoe kikujirō ii and his children, who are tied by ropes. The torture is under the supervision of orikoshi daizen masatomo, played by bandō hikosaburō iv (centre), who holds a sword to a child’s throat. The scene is observed by nagayoshi, also perfomed by hikosaburō (left), and ōtani tomoemon iv as the courtier goheita. Date: 1851 8th lunar month.
