This painting was originally identified as a portrait of prince alexander of augustenborg, son of louise augusta and duke fredeik christian of augustenborg. It is doubtfull if such a prince ever existed, and when ellen poulsen made a catalog of juel's paintings in 1991, she chose instead to point to either the couple's oldest daughter, caroline amalie (1796-1881), or to princess caroline (1793-1881), daughter of king frederik vi of denmark and queen marie. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1800. Dimensions: height: 36 cm (14.1 in); width: 29 cm (11.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown.
