Unveiling of the statue of Thomas Carlyle, Ecclefechan, 1929

This statue of thomas carlyle was unveiled in 1929 in his hometown of ecclefechan, by sir james chrichton-browne. This photograph shows the crowds gathered for the event. The statue was given to ecclefechan by mr alexander carlyle, who was married to mary carlyle aitken, a neice of thomas carlyle. The statue is on the haggs, ecclefechan and is a replica by macdonald and creswick of the boehm statue of carlyle in chelsea, london. Date: 1929.
