Plate 42: suicide of a mother and daughter, living in poverty; the mother is seated in a chair and looks towards a picture on the wall with the virgin and child, her right arm resting on her daughter who, seated on a stool at her mother's feet, has collapsed, one hand on her mother's arm; in the small attic room, a brazier with coals and a table in the foreground to right, a bed at the back, and light shining though a dormer window; after octave tassaert lithograph on grey chine collé.
