Thank you very much for your package. I was very happy about it. The little croissants taste great, and so do the other pastries, and we don’t even need to talk about the cigarettes. I’ve put the little krampus in my locker where it always sticks out and reminds me of my dear mum. Thank you very much too for the urgent message of december 3rd. I’m always so happy when i know that everything turned out well again. Unfortunately they were down here with us yesterday and again today, but i firmly believe that my mother will stay healthy. Please always send me a message straight away so that i can be reassured. Today, on the eve of my birthday, my thoughts are especially at home and with you. How wonderful it would be if there was peace! how wonderful it was back then when i was still at home and we were all together. This is my 4th birthday that i cannot spend at home. But i don't want to complain because i have been lucky so far without being called. In 1941 [i was in the hospital in kaluga just outside moscow, in 1942 in a quiet position in russia, in 1943 in warsaw, and this time i can even spend it at home. ]. Date: 11 December 1944.
