this plate was one of the thousand plates representing plants ordered in 1640 by guy de la brosse, intendant of the jardin du roi, in bosse, and which were to constitute the illustrations of his work. The death of la brosse interrupted this project while bosse had engraved one hundred and twenty plates, the two plans of the jardin du roi and the illustrated title.
