Imaginary portrait of king pedro i of castile (1334-1369). He was the son of king alfonso xi of castile and queen maría of portugal. He was known as "peter i the cruel" due to the numerous people he had killed, including several of his own half-brothers. He was assassinated in 1369, when he was 34 years old, by his half-brother henry ii of castile, who succeeded him to the throne.
