An early map of the east indian archipelago, showing the spice islands and covering an area from sumatra and southeast asia in the west to nova guinea [new guinea] in the east. The map is notable for the inscription, "huc franciscus dra[co] appulit" - the place where francis drake landed to the southern coast of java. Decorative features include a sea battle, a sea monster, two compass roses and three decorated cartouches. -- dealer's description. Date: 1623.
