Bronze statue of a youth, from the antikythera shipwreck, south of peloponnese. Ca. 340-330 bc. Found in 1990 in an ancient shipreck on the sea floor off antikythera, south of peloponnese, along with many other marble statues. The figure has been identified either as perseus, who would have been holding the head of medusa, or, more probably, as paris, with the “apple of strife”, ready to award it to the most beautiful goddess, aphrodite. The general structure of the piece, with the strongly modelled muscles, attests to the polykleitian tradition. Most probably attributed to the sikyonian sculptor euphranor. Height 1,96 m.
