Other comments: hanne finsen (1967) states that the portrait must represent either clovis (b. 1879) or emile (b. 1874), but that it is probably the first, because the style of drawing corresponds best to the years around 1878-80. Finsen refers to a drawing of clovis sleeping, of about the same age, with the inscription "drawing by paul gauguin. Paris 1879. Portrait of clovis gauguin" (paul gauguin, ny carlsberg glyptotek, copenhagen 1948, no. 64). She substantiates the dating with the fact that merete bodelsen has demonstrated similarities between the child's head on the kobberstiksamlingen's drawing and a small study in a gauguin sketchbook from c. 1880 in the national museum, stockholm (inv. No. N. M. 1-36/1936, sheet 25 verso), and that the figures on the back are very close to figures on sheet 13 of said sketchbook. Object Type: drawing. Dimensions: height: 209 mm (8.22 in); width: 266 mm (10.47 in). Medium: black chalk on light gray paper. Collection: Statens Museum for Kunst. Paul Gauguin, Portræt af kunstnerens søn Clovis, født den 10maj 1879, , KKS1965-72, Statens Museum for Kunst
