"portrait of a lady with her three children
in this work the author captures a clearly baroque portrait, starring a high-born lady, richly dressed and jeweled, accompanied by her three children. We see the child, the heir although the youngest, in his mother's lap, on a velvet pillow. At their feet we see a girl kneeling, raising her hand in the direction of her brother. A second girl appears on the right side of the composition, sitting on a large velvet armchair. The figures appear strongly illuminated, especially the three in the foreground, standing out against a typically baroque dark background, which enhances their monumentality and their volume, their physical presence. Formally, it is also worth highlighting the richness of the fabrics, not only for their pompous and sculptural folds but, above all, for the sumptuousness of their qualities, the delicacy of their shine, etc. This treatment of fabrics links directly with the teachings of van dyck, head of flemish portraiture in the 17th century. "son of a cloth and silk merchant, which undoubtedly influenced his appreciation of fabrics. ". Date: 17th century.
