Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-08-20) letter no. 273 (1944-08-23) next letter (1944-08-28) envelope: front back text [here we have the most wonderful holiday weather, always blue skies and sunshine, how nice it would be if i could] be at home now. How hard it is for me to sit here in the hut when it is so beautiful outside. So i lie down in the sun at lunchtime, and when it gets too warm i shower off at the hydrant. In the evening after work i quickly go to the bath again, the sun is still shining and it is wonderfully refreshing. So you see, my mum, i am well and am having a lovely time despite everything. Have you received my picture yet, how do you like it? my card will have arrived by now too. Well, what do you say about heinz gäke being with me on sunday with his wife? i couldn't believe it when i suddenly saw him. There was so much to talk about and old memories to refresh. I was very happy. He also sends his best regards to you and karl. I got a card from poldi from roseneheim saying he is already on his way to the front (italy). I hope he stays healthy and comes back soon! - how are things with the planes over here? it's pretty quiet here now. Hey, my mother, what are you doing and how are you? don't work too hard in the heat and don't catch a cold afterwards! please say hello to all your friends for me! greetings and kisses from the bottom of my heart for today, your hansl. Date: 23 August 1944.
