This ecce homo comes from the capuchin convent of the city of cádiz, like all the works of bartolomé esteban murillo that are preserved in the museum of cádiz, and it is a work of ancient devotion and very famous in the city, in which the close connection of the painter with popular religious sensitivity is evident. And it has been said that this work may well be an old copy of an original by murillo or that it was completed by an apprentice of the master who worked in the capuchin convent alongside him.
