The knight of saint george is the pseudonym of joseph bologne (1745-1799), born in guadeloupe. He arrived in paris in 1753. A student of la böessière père, he was a fencer, gendarme of the king's guard, musician, conductor and composer. He made his justly acquired reputation both in london and in paris as the greatest fencing performer and was also appreciated as a musician.
