Mariage de Napoléon Joseph Charles Paul Bonaparte et Ludovica Teresa Maria Clotilde di Savoia. 014, 19 March 1859

Transcription of the marriage certificate of h. H. I. Prince napoleon. It was on sunday february 27 that this official solemnity took place at the tuileries palace, in the salon of louis this magnificent room, when their imperial majesties entered it, at nine o'clock accompanied by the princes and princesses and followed by their procession. It is to the rich ceiling with which nicolas loir decorated it in 1668 that this room owes its name. This ceiling, of remarkable elegance and great effect, represents the sun at sunrise, setting the sky and the earth ablaze with its rays. We know that it was this star that louis xiv took as his emblem, with the motto: nec pluribus impar. The emperor and the empress took their places in two armchairs which had been prepared for them in front of a table where the civil status registers of the imperial family were placed; these registers are the same ones which had been drawn up by the orders of napoleon i. They had disappeared in the storm of 1815, when the first empire itself had vanished. For a long time we thought they were lost or destroyed. They had been collected by the faithful hands of one of the illustrations of the first empire, whose son, a general officer in the army, returned these precious monuments to the archives of the imperial family. Ll. Aa. Ii. Prince jérôme napoléon and prince napoléon, ll. Aa. The princes louis-lucien bonaparte, lucien murat, joachim murat and s. G. The duke of hamilton occupied the seats which had been prepared for them to the right of the emperor; those placed to the left of the empress were placed by ll. Aa. Ii. Princess clotilde and princess mathilde, s. A. Grand ducal mme ja princess marie, duchess of hamilton, ll. Aa. Princesses lucien murat, joachim murat and anna murat. The minister of state, assisted by the president of the council of state, then received from the minister of foreign affairs the minute of ll's marriage certificate. Aa. Ii. Prince and princess napoleon and supporting documents. He immediately had it transcribed in the civil status registers of the imperial family, and immediately after read aloud the report noting the completion of these formalities. Their majesties and the princes and princesses of the imperial family then appended their signatures to this act, which all those invited were also admitted to the honor of signing. Among this brilliant audience were mr. Marquis pès de la villa-marina, envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of h. M. The king of sardinia, the presidents of the senate and the legislative body, mr. Count de persigny, member of the privy council, marshal count randon, admiral parseval-deschênes; the great officers of the crown, the commander in chief of the imperial guard, the adjutant general of the palace, the governor of the invalides, the senior commander of the national guard of the seine, general niel, aide-de-camp of the emperor , and colonel de franconière, first aide-de-camp of his imperial highness, witnesses of mgr prince napoleon. It is the moment when their imperial majesties and their entire court rose to proceed with this signing that the artist chose to represent this ceremony, which is both a family scene and a historical scene. Leo de bernard. Date: 19 March 1859.
