Saint nicholas altarpiece (or saint nicholas in chair with stories of his life), copy of an original work by antonello da messina, ca. 1465. The original altarpiece was destroyed during the messina earthquake of 1908. The copy is kept in the milazzo cathedral and has been attributed to antonino giuffré or giovanni antonio marchese. The original work had eight side panels with scenes from the life of saint nicholas, and not ten as in the copy (two new panels have been added to the composition at the top depicting an annunciation, with the announcing angel on the left and the virgin on the right). Other details of the work, such as the chair of the saint, are not exact with respect to the original work.
