historical commentary:
in the minutes of the old paris commission of 10 11 1906, p. 262: demolition of the abbaye-aux-bois: "your 3rd sub-commission thought that it would be interesting and valuable for the carnavalet museum's boxes to complete the series of photographic reproductions already taken with a view of the parts of the monastery into which it had been impossible to enter. In agreement with your 3rd commission, the following new reproductions were made urgently during the demolition work. 1° a view of the large corridor of the cells from the 1st floor, in the east building overlooking the cloister [sic]; 2° the view of a nun's cell, with its alcove; 3° the demolition site of the cloister; 4° the view of the old buildings which obscured it and which have just been demolished; first by mme récamier, taken exactly from the point where the famous painting of juinne was made.
