Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1941-09-01) letter no. Blank (1941-09-08) next letter (1941-09-14) envelope: front back text russia, 8th september 1941. Dearest parents! i send you my warmest greetings. You mustn’t be angry or worry if i don’t write for a long time, but i really have very little time! thank you for the packages, i’m always very happy about them. As i already wrote, karl is in my company! that’s a coincidence. He came with the last replacement. It was a joy when we saw each other. He is now in the 2nd platoon and i am in the first. We have now marched south from gomel and are now in the ukraine. We are doing quite well. I am still healthy and in good spirits. Karl is in good shape too. You'll have to excuse the smudges; i'm writing outside and it's raining. But you'll be able to decipher it. I don't want to stop writing because who knows when i'll get around to it again. I've dug myself out here in an open field and so i have time to write. I think you'd be happy to receive a letter even when it's dirty? now tell me, what's new at home? i hope you're well. Please give all your friends my regards; i can't write to everyone! especially siegi and aunt mitzi! many thanks and greetings to mrs tschirtner too. I received the second package on september 6th. There's not much to report from here, it's always the same. I hear there's mail again today; i'm really looking forward to your letters! now i'll close! best wishes and lots of kisses from your hansl. Date: 8 September 1941.
