Antipas roasted alive in a copper steer, ad 95. From the martyrs mirror, this is an etching by en:jan luyken (1649-1712). The text at the top of the page is translated as follows: "john the evangelist, the holy evangelist, banished to the isle of patmos, by emperor domitian, a. D. 97. " however, this caption is incorrect; it must have been mislabeled. It is actually a depiction of saint antipas being roasted alive in a copper steer. [1]
↑ the martyrs mirror images. Mennonite library and archives. "book 1, page 34: antipas roasted alive in a copper steer, ad 95 (interesting that the caption in the original is wrong here) (eeghen 672)". Date: etching from the 1685 edition of Martyrs Mirror.
