A study of a patch of grass and red foliage is presented on the edge of a pond. The foliage is reflected in the water below which fills the foreground. The gray color at lower right is the color of the paint ground the artist applied before beginning the oil sketch. Date: circa 1860. Dimensions: 15.5 x 25.9 cm (6 1/8 x 10 3/16 in.).
