Keyland: svensk allmogekost, 1919): "milking and cleaning in the barn. Photograph from the summer of 1911, when the cows became unusually thin as a result of severe drought and lack of pasture. " from the running text: "the woman, who is milking, sits on a small stool of primitive manufacture. Between her knees she holds the 'kollan', the bar, a vessel with usually upright rods, the rearmost of which is extended and shaped into a handle, 'öre'. The milking is carried out alternately with 'squeezing' and 'draing', methods in which all milkmaids are at home. The kollan is beaten, if so is needed, the milk in a larger storage vessel".
