Forged portrait of Valentina Visconti, Duchess of Orléans, Franz Wolfgang Rohrich, between 1810 and 1820
The 19th-century hand writing identifies these women as two italian rivals from the 14th-century french court. However, the style of the costumes suggests 16th-century germany. It has been suggested that the ensemble may be a forgery of the 19th century, made by franz wolfgang rohrich (1787-1834) of nuremberg, who forged paintings in the style of lucas cranach and albrecht dürer.
