in 1817, rue mabillon was extended and rue clémént opened to serve the saint-germain market installed on part of the old saint-germain fair. The hôtel des examens was built in 1900, on the western part of this market (cf. Hillairet "historical dictionary of the streets of paris", 1985, t ii, p. 81, 82)
