by descent to col. Thomas-chaloner bisse-challoner, of portnall park, from either his mother, mrs bisse (d. 1816); or his great-aunt lydia challoner (d. 1803); or his aunt mrs barnard (d. 1842); or his uncle william townsend (d. 1823); or one of his aynscombe cousins (d. 1799/1828/1841/1849), or perhaps from one of the other descendants or associates by marriage of robert smith. Thence to challoner's brother-in-law, rev. Henry jerome de salis, then to his eldest son rodolph, to his brother cecil, who sold it at christie's king street, 11 march 1932, lot 97, £2,415 to ?;
