Düsseldorf, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Denkmal (2012) (1)
The new monument erected in september 2012 in memory of the düsseldorf music director felix mendelssohn bartholdy stands on the south side of the hofgarten next to the deutsche oper am rhein. It is a reconstruction of a monument by the sculptor schwan kamal that was donated by the city's citizens in 1901 and destroyed by the nazis in 1940. The 2. 60 meter high monument weighs around one ton. The düsseldorf architectural firm hpp was responsible for the design of the base and the square on which it is erected. The base is made of light natural stone; it bears a bronze plate with explanations of the history of the monument.
