The reverse of the indian head cent from 1860 to 1909. This particular coin was minted in 1909 at the philadelphia mint (no mint mark) and is graded ms65rd (red) by the numismatic guaranty corporation (ngc). It is housed in a plastic ngc edgeview holder (one can see the minimally viewable white prongs holding the edge of the coin). The reverse design was similar for 1859 cents, but featured a laurel wreath (instead of the oak wreath seen here), and did not include the shield.
