According to some authors, this work, which shows the visigoth prince saint hermenegild in prison for refusing to abandon catholicism and not return to arianism, shows major deficiencies in its drawing, in its compositional scheme and in the attitude of the characters. Saint hermenegild (564-585) was the son of the visigoth king leovigild, and in the year 585 he was executed in tarragona by order of his father. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1860.
