Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1943-04-21) letter no. 161 (1943-04-24) next letter (1943-04-28) [i get up at 7 a. M. And the russian boys have already polished my boots. There is water for washing and the water for coffee is boiling in the samovar. Now we have a great, great breakfast. Then we do a bit of work, arithmetic and writing. Today i also went to the sauna in wonderfully fresh clothes. So it's lunchtime and we eat out of bowls. After dinner we also do a bit of "work". In the afternoon i hand out food for 17 men. Yesterday i received food for 4 days, so i have to keep an eye on things and divide things up. Now it's evening again, so i'm going for a little walk. At night i only have 1½ hours of stable watch when i look after the horses. So you can see i'm doing fabulously! i have to close now. It's 12:00 and i'm going to get some food because the mail has to be delivered. Spend easter tomorrow as best i can, i hope you're off duty. My dear mother, lots of warm greetings and kisses from your hansl. I've had enough ns stationery now! Date: 24 April 1943.
