iconographic description:
the title is the words addressed by schonen to the duke of aumale (son of louis-philippe) eating a piece of toast and in front of whom he is kneeling, arms outstretched. Schonen's smug and stupid look. The duke of aumale, a young child, wears a military costume and wears the cross of the legion of honor at the end of a scarf. Denunciation, by this pl. , of the incorporation of the duke of aumale into a legion of the national guard, when he was only seven years old. The explanation emphasizes the absurdity of appointing children to military ranks or decorating children based solely on their birth, and not on their exploits. Situation which existed under the old regime, and which continues under the july monarchy. On the same subject, cf. Pl. 418 (number 200; september 4, 1834). Person / character represented:
schonen, auguste jean marie de, baron
