Entrance to the Rue de la Cité, 1850. Former Rue de la Lanterne, between 1875 and 1882
A glimpse down the rue de la cité, one of the main arteries of central paris. The three-hundred-meter street has changed names and incarnations three times since the twelfth century, expanding notably in its nineteenth century incarnation as the rue de la cité. This expansion led to the demolition of several bourgeois homes, but preserved the historic saint-denis de chartre church. Date: between 1875 and 1882. Dimensions: 11 x 9.5 cm. Medium: lithograph. Collection: Brown University Library.
