In the Rutli-Schwur, Switzerlan* (1600), Hans Rudolf Manuel, 1600; 1544
"münster's sights and views-- some examples from different editions (many with modern hand-coloring"
this is a reproduction (1600) of a woodcut made by hans rudolf manuel deutsch for sebastian münster's cosmographia (1544). It shows the three confederates conspiring on the rütli (not necessarily in the act of taking the oath), with lake lucerne and the alpine landscape in the background. The burning castle on the left margin presumably represents zwing-uri, the first castle destroyed in the "burgenbruch" rebellion. The caption of the original woodcut was primum suitensium foedus.
